Pop Shots – Public Appearances

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Foo Fighters doing a drive-by performance, to Ed Sheeran helping to kick off the NFL season, to Justin Bieber planning a Vegas vacation, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Foo Fighters decided to spread some love in the face of one of America’s most notorious hate groups, the Westboro Baptist Church. The band did a drive-by performance of their cover of the Bee Gees’ classic “You Should Be Dancing,” and talked about how we should all be spreading love in the world. In the future, I’d like to be alerted as to when, and where Dave Grohl will be doing drive-by concerts. Also, the parking lot for my building is totally available, and I know Foo Fighters are gonna be performing just one town over on September 17th. Just sayin’!

* Billie Eilish notched her second #1 album with Happier Than Ever debuting at the top of the chart with 238,000 equivalent album units. Eilish continues to ascend the ranks of musical Billies, but still has a long way to go before reaching the heights of Billie Holiday, Billy Idol, and Billy Joel.

* Ed Sheeran will perform at the NFL’s 2021 Kickoff Experience in Tampa ahead of the season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This concert may prove to be an issue for Cowboys fans, as Sheeran’s appearance could trigger memories of Andy Dalton.

* Halsey decided to show off her post-pregnancy stretch marks on Instagram. In a message I’d like to send to everyone who’s read my book, ChemBro – don’t worry, I’ll never post an image of where my left testicle used to be, or the scar from the surgery. Also, I’m not on Instagram.

* Speaking of Instagram, DaBaby’s Instagram post where he apologized for making homophobic comments has been removed, much like he was removed from numerous festival lineups after his homophobic comments. I will simply repeat what I said last week about DaBaby – I’m 100% sure he’s sorry his comments cost him those gigs.

* Maple Leif Garrett, aka Justin Bieber, will be planning a Vegas vacation for his fans this October. The trip is being dubbed Justin Bieber & Friends, The Vegas Weekender, and it will feature an itinerary planned by Bieber that will be filled with his favorite Vegas activities. The Griswolds wish him nothing but the best of luck.

* In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Beyonce teased new music, saying she’s been in the studio, and “music is coming.” Personally, I can’t wait to hear what Rae Sremmurd wrote for her this time around.

* Metallica now has a video in the 1 billion views club, and it somehow isn’t “Enter Sandman.” Instead, it’s the video for the ballad “Nothing Else Matters.” I’m guessing none of those views are from Shawn Fanning. (kids will understand a Napster reference in 2021, right?)

* Lizzo and Cardi B joined forces for a new single titled “Rumors.” With a name like that I just have to ask – what in the name of Lindsay Lohan is going on here??? (you didn’t think I was gonna go for the far more obvious Fleetwood Mac reference, did you?)

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
