NYC Scene Report – Lizzie & The Makers, PremRock, & ENTITY

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Lizzie & the Makers tired of being a “Lover By Proxy,” PremRock feeling “Remorse,” and ENTITY seeing Visions in Black.

* Brooklyn-based indie rockers Lizzie & The Makers will be releasing their sophomore album, Dear Onda Wahl, this fall, and the second single features frontwoman Lizzie Edwards feeling like a “Lover By Proxy.”

Explaining the inspiration for the song in a statement, Edwards said, “The title was born out of frustration with recent romantic partners. I felt like I was a placeholder, or ‘fixer,’ helping them realize their worth, and potential. Once they achieved this confidence, they moved on to someone else.”

She continued, adding, “While other songs on this record are introspective, idealistic, and melancholic in tone when it comes to love, ‘Lover By Proxy’ is pure fire mixed with reluctant acceptance, and punctuated by an overarching, and generous ‘fuck you.’”

Click play on this one, and crank up the volume, so anyone who’s ever treated you like a “Lover By Proxy” will hear it.

* To say NYC-based hip-hop artist PremRock is a veteran of this site would be an understatement. He was first featured here back in 2010 (then going by the name Premonition). In the 11 years since he’s made numerous appearances in columns, as all of his albums have featured impressive displays of emceeing.

PremRock’s latest is Load Bearing Crow’s Feet, the first single off of which is “Remorse.” Promising, “Remorse is just a stone’s throw away,” PremRock maintains his reputation as a remarkably deft lyricist, with backing vocals by ELUCID, and incredible production by Fresh Kils, and PremRock himself.

I can guarantee you won’t feel any “Remorse” after clicking play on this one. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be wearing out the replay button (can you wear out a button YouTube? I guess we’ll find out!).

* ENTITY is the performance moniker of NY-based artist Natalie Diaz, who describes herself as, “A lady who makes bass music.” Her latest offering is the hard-hitting “Play Me (Don’t).”

The first single off her upcoming EP, Visions in Black, “Play Me (Don’t)” shows off ENTITY’s strengths as a producer, singer, and songwriter. Additionally, as a DJ she knows what inspires people to move, and with “Play Me (Don’t)” she’s crafted a track that will make you get out of your seat.

While she sings that she doesn’t want to get played, that’s not in regards to the video, which I’m pretty sure she wants everyone to play. It’s a wild clip, so check it out.
