NYC Scene Report – Mother Feather, All Out!, & more

This week’s NYC Scene Report features the return of hard rockers Mother Feather, fresh pop punk from All Out!, a dream pop tune from Barrie, and a post-punk Pill with a “Fruit” filled center.

* NYC hard rock outfit Mother Feather are back and they have some “Red Hot Metal” for your ears.

For the uninitiated, Mother Feather are a rock band that has some of the wildest shows that grace the stages that support NYC’s indie music scene. “Red Hot Metal” is the lead single off the band’s sophomore album, Constellation Baby, which is due out November 2nd via Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media.

Lead singer Ann Courtney discussed the song in a statement, saying, “‘Red Hot Metal’ is a death match wrestling event of the anxious mind. It’s a fever dream of some of the darkest hours writing the new songs for the album as I fought to keep my grip on my sanity and the wheel of an old – but fast – red car.”

Click play and hang on for the ride!

* Sometimes you have to go All Out, especially if you enjoy great pop punk from Long Island, because then you’re talking about the band All Out! (exclamation point included).

The latest from All Out! is “Take It or Leave It,” which frontman Luke Varisco explained the inspiration for in a statement, saying, “We really wanted ‘Take It or Leave It’ to feel fresh, and sound like a good time. We often stress ourselves out with options and choices, but in the end, no decision is ever perfect. It’s all the same really, so why not enjoy every moment possible and say fuck it!”

I think everyone could use more enjoyment in their life, so click play and get some of it for yourself.

* With their beautifully chilled out vibe, dream pop band Barrie have become a column favorite around here. The group recently debuted their third single, “Michigan,” and the song marks an important next step for the band – it signifies they’re now ready to release their debut 12’’, aptly titled Singles.

Barrie began releasing music together at the start of the year, and developed a buzz with their first two singles, “Canyons,” and “Tal Uno.” Now, with “Michigan,” they’ve completed the A side of Singles, which will be released on October 12th (hey, that’s this Friday!) via Winspear. The B side will feature remixes done by the band’s friends in the techno community.

Check out the original version of “Michigan,” and get dreamy with Barrie.

* Closing things out this week is a wildly creative – and more than a little batsh*t insane – video from post-punk band Pill for their latest single, “Fruit.”

“Fruit” is off the band’s upcoming album Soft Hell, due out October 26th via Mexican Summer, and the video for the song was created by Studio Kándé, who described the clip in a statement, saying, “We wanted to create a grotesque and colorful bacchanal of bullshit while blowing kisses at Le Grande Bouffe, the color palette of an LSD tinged Betty Crocker cookbook, and the recent trend in millennial slime. We gently suggest viewing this through the lens of a 1990s Saturday morning claymation interstitial while you gobble down a bowl of sugary cereal.”

Well, you read the video’s creators’ suggestion, so grab your bowl of cereal and click play!
